Did you know that shopping is now the fastest growing use of the Internet?
More than 40% of Internet users say online shopping is the main reason they use the web.
And this doesn't even include the indirect impact your website has on your sales, through people looking on your site for information before they buy offline.
Considering the Internet is where people are going to buy their products and services - your business should be asking yourself two questions:
1. Is what I am selling online compelling enough for people to want to buy it?
2. Are people getting to my site to learn about what I'm selling in the first place?
The people who have been able to answer a resounding 'YES' to those two questions are the most successful online entrepreneurs.
People such as Jeff Bezos of Amazon.com or Michael Dell of Dell Computers are two of the greatest online entrepreneurs we've seen so far. What are some of the things they have in common?
1. They've both used technology to redefine the rules of competition for their industry.
2. They've both been the first to introduce their innovations, beating competitors to the punch.
3. They've both taken huge risks and made lots of changes in the way they use the Internet. And they might have lost some bets they made on the way, but overall, they have won the war.
The lessons for other entrepreneurs then becomes obvious.
If you have a good idea on how you can use the Internet to generate considerable sales, ask yourself if it will transform the market and the way competitors do business in that market. If the answer is yes, then your product or service will be compelling enough for people to demand it. And if there is such a demand, then you need to implement it now, before your competitor.
Because, it is highly likely that someone else may have a similar idea to you, you need to get the first mover advantage by acting fast. You can always make changes later. The risk with delaying is that once your idea has been done, it's unlikely you will ever be renowned for that idea in the market, as the innovator always is.
